That is what adding is
Adding is putting groups together and asking how many there are now. Nothing appears or disappears.
The plus sign
We write it 3 + 2. The + means put together. It saves saying the whole sentence every time.
The equals sign
3 + 2 = 5 says both sides are the same amount. It does not mean "here comes the answer".
Equals means balanced
You could write 5 = 3 + 2 and it would still be true. Both sides name the same amount, whichever way round you put them.
