Strategy first, recall second
Every fact you know started as a strategy. Using the strategy often is what makes it stick.
Division comes free
Every multiplication fact you learn gives you two division facts with it.
Why recall matters, not just method
When you are dividing a four-digit number in Grade 4 or comparing fractions in Grade 5, you will need dozens of table facts along the way. If each one takes ten seconds to rebuild, the real problem never gets your attention. Recall frees your thinking for the part that is actually hard.
How to get there
Short and frequent beats long and rare — five minutes a day is worth more than an hour on Saturday. Practise the facts you get wrong, not the ones you already know. And practise in both directions, so 6 × 7 and 42 ÷ 7 are equally quick.
Keep the strategies
Even when the facts are memorised, keep the strategies. They are your safety net when memory fails under pressure, and they are the foundation for multiplying larger numbers, where nothing is memorised and everything is built.

8 × 7 = (8 × 5) + (8 × 2) = 40 + 16 = 56
The array is cut into 8 × 5 and 8 × 2. Two easier facts that add to the same total.
