Take out easy chunks

Add the chunks

20 lots and 6 lots make 26 lots. So 624 ÷ 24 = 26.

A guess that is too small is fine

Take out 10 lots at a time if that is easier. It only takes more steps, never a wrong answer.

Estimate each digit before committing

Dividing 4,352 by 34 means repeatedly asking how many 34s fit. Round 34 to 30 to make the guess easy, then check by multiplying. Guessing and checking is not a beginner's crutch here — it is how long division actually works.

Adjusting a guess
