Sorting makes counting easier
A mixed heap is hard to count. Sorted piles are small and separate, so you are less likely to lose your place.
Then compare
The pile with the bigger number has more. Five beats three, so there are more red ones.
Or match without counting
Put one red next to one blue. Whichever pile has some left over is the bigger one.
They might be the same
If both piles have four, neither has more. The same is a real answer too.
