These names are tricky
Eleven and twelve sound nothing like ten. There is no clue inside them, so they simply have to be learned.
Thirteen is friendlier
Thirteen is really "three and ten". You can hear the three at the front if you listen for it.
But it is said backwards
Thirteen says the three first and the ten second. The number is written the other way round, with the ten first. That catches people out.
Every one of them holds a ten
Eleven, twelve, thirteen — all of them are one full ten with some left over. The ten is always there, even when you cannot hear it.

Fill a ten frame, then start a second one. Whatever spills over is the "some more" part.
