The idea this lesson is working on — Children often think the way to reach somebody far away is to be louder. In the book Leo’s shout fades long before Ben’s tent, and his flashlight reaches it at once. Ask: why could Ben see the light but not hear the shout?
Both people must know the code — A flashing light only means something if the person watching knows what it means. One flash for yes and two for no works because Leo and Ben agreed it first. Red meaning stop works for the same reason: everybody was taught it.
